Hi, I just bought xtreamer pro and I'm loving it although it only 1 day passed since I had it
Not a big fan about the HD Audio fuss, just have a few question that I hope someone can clarify.

Will the new firmware includes new features like
- automatic fan speed control
- playlist editor
- temperature monitor
- RAID

The features will work on both xtreamer pro and the xtreamer sidewinder and even on xtreamer mk1 (except HD audio which will be down-mixed).

I will take the opportunity on this thread to repeat some info scattered around in forums and clarify :

The differences between the two models of xtreamer 2.5" and the Xtreamer Sidewinder :

Xtreamer 2.5 (mk1 - release year 2009) is based originally on RTD 1283 chipset

(1) The xtreamer sidewinder is based on new revised chipset RTD 1283 DD . This model we were allowed to license to support upto 7.1 HD audio passthrough.

(2) another difference is that the old xtreamer (which is now on special sale for 7 days for the price of 99 euro including shipping) is based on active cooling and fan. if you are sensitive even to the current fan noise level you may want to use a passive cooling installed on the device. for this you need to buy the extra accessory (either XSC Kit or Xtreamer 2 sided Sidewinder cooling kit). The Xtreamer sidewinder model 2010 we produced the xtreamer device from factor with passive cooling

(3) The most noticeable difference between the two models is that with the old model you will be able to enjoy HD audio down-mixed and not passthrough your amplifier. it means that HD audio Dolby True HD will be down mixed to 2 channels and DTS MA will be Core DTS 5,1

(4) If you dont have a super expensive set of amplifier and at least 6 or 8 speakers at home which you recently bought and that supports this kind of HD audio codecs it should not bother you the difference as in all other aspects - the two models are identical.

the firmware is same, the memory is same and the features are same (except the HD audio issue i mentioned).

As we found out it is very likely to make confusion i shall repeat.

The issue of how old xtreamer can / able to handle HD audio was abused by some trolls on this community and caused much confusion. People were misled to believe the old xtreamer 2.5 mk1 produces poor quality of sound or no sound at all on HD audio which is not true. In the same time some opportunists users thought they may have "the case of their live" against us trying to blackmail us to send them freebies and compensations etc.

The people who promoted Havoc around this issue on our forums and on other forums did not tell you in the same time about 4 facts :

(1) You can hardly find any title that supports HD audio 7.1
(2) We are the first and probably only device on the market which is fully licensed for HD audio. And we intend to keep this advantage by talking all steps to ensure this advantage in the future.
(3) The average size of titles with this kind of audio codec is around 30-40 gigabytes.
(4) no other device based on RTL in the market currently support it and we doubt they will ever will.

They did not tell you also that :

(1) if we could license the old 2009 RTL based devices and RTL would have allowed us the platform to support 7.1 HD audio we would have done it without question.
(2) we gave compensation for all xtreamer users worldwide by way of allowing them to buy the xtreamer pro for 60 euro off its price. this offer was open for nearly 2 months.
(3) We gave to all xtreamer users worldwide the ability to enjoy the etrayz for a 40 euro off . These two offers comes to actually 100% if the xtreamer price.
(4) We added the device FW abilities that required us to pay additional charges for licenses after customer got their devices. We could ofcourse retain old manufacturer habbit and introduce this kind of feature only to new models...only to new customers..We decided not to and rather respect you all and honor your investment in xtreamer with the best value for money and room for enhanced experience even in the future. we hate when it has been done to us as consumers .we will not do it to you .
(5) we offered and still offering to every customer 14 days money back guarantee. if user did found out the issue of HD audio passthrough is so eminent in his life (and that he has to listen to the one or maybe 2 titles available titles on the market with 7.1 support) he could find out about it immediately after purchase and return the device for a full unquestionable refund.

When you will be able to provide me similar approach and declaration of step taken from any other manufacturer of any consumer electronic in the market, we will consider ourselves more than surprised.

While you see this video you might have some questions about the differences between the xtreamer pro and the xtreamer sidewinder 2010 model we just announced.

Both the xtreamer pro and the xtreamer sidewinder are based on the same chipset RTD 1283 DD

The pro is a 2 bay media player that supports 3.5" the sidewinder support only 1 hdd 2.5". it means the Pro can store up to 8 times more data on its internal drives (and probably more once 3TB hdd will be available in the market). The cost of 3.5 " HDD is substantially less than the 2.5" and can support upto 2TB on each bay now to a total of up to 4 TB now.

both models can run without any HDD installed inside if you decided to stream all you data from the local network at home.

The Xtreamer Pro is not based on passive cooling and utilizes very silent fan. it has 2 internal HDD and it is required for durability as the chipset can be very hot when playing HD files.

The Xtreamer pro comes with 2 times memory capacity of the xtreamer sidewinder.

The xtreamer pro comes with a built in additional chip that utilize the full speed of eSATA when connected to PC. This means that copying HD movies which probably weighs few gigas is super fast on Pro in comparison to any other model we sell or any other model in the market. We are the only one in the market with this kind of chipset inside media player. The Xtreamer Sidewinder dont have such chip and all copy functions are using the RTL cpu power.

The Xtreamer Pro is bundled with HDMI cable + eSATA cable & eSATA bracket for PC + Wireless WIFI extension cable to allow enhanced usage of the Wifi 802.11n USB antenna.

the Xtreamer Pro has different home screen that utilizes skin-able wallpapers . This is not supported on xtreamer 2.5

The Xtreamer Pro is sold on our official shop for 174 euro including shipping . The xtreamer sidewinder is sold for 129 euro including shipping.

part from these points...both devices are based on same firmware functions, same roadmap and same features. both devices can support HD audio up to 7.1 for TrueHD, DTS-MA and Dolby Digital Plus. Both will enjoy Opera web browser functionality once we are ready with version 3 of our firmware. Both will support adobe flash. both will support media jukebox . both will support xtreamer live streaming portal build in.

@ xtreamer - just a quick note, can you please add on your FAQ site/post above that ye include a low-profile bracket for the e-sata (needed this but was unsure if it was included, love that it is)

Could you also arrange to have WD 2TB WD2002FYPS added to the compatibilty list as I've currently have two of these drives in my Xtreamer PRO.

I cannot wait for the new firmware...the jukebox and HD audio format support is what won be over even before purchase. I have been pretty impressed with my unit so far and it is obvious that development to include volunteer dev is very good compared to the competition....can someone confirm whether or not the reformat of the internal drives any other drives to ext3 file system will be a requirement?
