Music Player Daemon (MPD) is a flexible, powerful, server-side application for playing music. Through plugins and libraries it can play a variety of sound files while being controlled by its network protocol.

For it you first need and USB sound adapter plugged into your eTRAYz USB port. More info about on which one I used here:

Its an application that builds database of your songs (can play mp3, ogg and flac files) and stream them to sound card. You can control it with integrated console based client called ncmpc. Type in console to run it after you started mpd process:

ncmpc.sh

Alternative to that is a realy nice Web client called client175:



Another alternative is a Firefox addon called Minion:



Realy cool stuff. And tons of option I haven't explored yet.

Drivers for your USB card should be autostarted when your first start mpd process.

I have updated MPD package with latest version 0.16.1. Included is the new module vpeter made. I also updated the ncurses client ncmpc.

Hi, I like the mpd, I use it on my PC. I would like to install it on my Xtreamer SideWinder. You have already installed it on eTRAYz, do you think it is possible to do it also for SideWinder? I tried to use XMP pack, but when I try to install mpd package (and lot of other requirements), I broke it and I had to use an emergency upgrade. I would appreciate any hint.

I can't add custom support for codecs. Only the ones available in source. Will see what I can do with new version.

Testing now, AAC streams plays fine. My mistake i didn't see that streams i want to play are encoded in AACP . Do you think we can get get that working ?

Some trouble with the playlists write rigths:

Login in ssh console via putty as: sysadmin
because i can't login with root. Used pw as admin, but not working.

When i use ncmpc.sh and have added two or three mp3 songs to the playlist,
and will save this list with SHIFT-S, then i get permission denied.

There are also the same issue with the mpd.state file.

mpd.log tells me:
- date: state_file: failed to create /home/sysadmin/.mpd/mpd.state: Permission denied

also i get in mpd.log:
- date: decoder_thread: Unrecognized URI
But i think that's an issue with the sample rate. Not the issue at all.

eTrayz firmware: Ver.1.0.7-official
eTrayz APP Installer: Ver 2.05

Type this in console:

chmod 777 -R /home/sysadmin/.mpd/

And try again.

If still not working then login to SSH as user root using your sysadmin password.

Let me know if it worked.

1st Thanks for the help so far.

For chmod 777 -R /home/sysadmin/.mpd/ i get:
chmod: changing permissions of '/home/sysdamin/.mpd/playlists': Operation not permirred
same for: mpd.log, mpd.db and mpd.state

When i login with root and the same password as sysadmin (that password works) i get:
- Access denied

Password for the time being is 'XXXXX'. Is there the problem about the '!'?

But you should be able to login as root also using your sysadmin password. If not login as sysadmin and type:

su

Ahh, yes.. that has fixed it: sudo chmod 777 -R /home/sysadmin/.mpd/
old times gentoo and debian come up.

But su or su root doesn't work at all with that password.
I think i will backup all the files and do a complete restart at all from out of the box.
Possible something goes wrong in the system. But i will report this later how it is working with root.

I have made a complete new install from up the setup.exe with bin file.

After i had setup the system step by step with the wizzard, i was able to
login with sysadmin. I have changed the apssword for sysadmin to: .

Then login with putty via ssh as sysadmin on Windows 7 Ultimate.

With su or su root with the new password i get: Access denied
Also with su passwd root and a new password i had no chance.
Then the login with root under putty was also not possible. Everytime i get Access denied.

I have tested it from ># and from > cd /usr/bin then with su root: Access denied

There must be something wrong i think. Do you have any ideas what's going on?

UPDATE:
After i had installed WinScp now under Windows 7 Ultimate, i can connect as root.
Strange, very strange. Because i have the latest putty.exe. When i use putty
directly i have no chance. When i use putty via WinScp it is working.

What is that? I am crazy or stupid ...
