Here is another cool program for safe connection over VPN to your eTrayz from anywhere that you have Hamachi client installed.

https://secure.logme...ducts/hamachi2/

Its freeware for personal use up to 16 clients and it adds ability to connect to your eTrayz (eTrayz only, not the whole home network).

To start using it, register on its homepage and create a new network. Password protect it but allow anyone to connect (not only by approval). Remeber the id number of it (looking like 999-999-999).

When you install Hamachi client on eTrayz it will create the certificates and prepare some default settings.

YOU NEED TO EDIT this values in the the file /etc/init.d/hamachi:

# CHANGE THIS VALUES
NICK="eTrayz"
NETWORK="999-999-999"
PASSWORD="password"

Fill it with proper values. Then save and start the process. It should automaticly connect to your network. You can then ping and access any computer in that network.

The hamachi executable is located at:

/usr/local/bin/hamachi

If you want to run it manualy use it like so:

/usr/local/bin/hamachi -c /etc/hamachi

Settings are saved in /etc/hamachi.

For more info one commands check:

http://logmeinwiki.c...nstall_on_Linux

Register. Login. Then select My Networks->Add network. Name it and select Mesh as network type. For Join Requests choose Accept automatically and tick A password is required to join this network.

Once created click Edit on it and you will be able to see the network ID number (999-999-999). Type that number together with password into /etc/init.d/hamachi. Next step is to add additional clients (up to 16) either on windows or osx computers. All which connect to that network will be able to see each others.

Its simillar as OpenVPN. But here there is no local server. Everyone connect to Hamachi server who then binds all the computers in the same network.

I don't think you can use it like OpenVPN to see private network behind the eTrayz. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.

You need to ping the 5.x.x.x network IP. It gets dynamicly assinged to you. Please some Hamachi expert explain this better for us plain users.

Some of my experience of installing hamachi.
Let's start with network ABC a little. If you have local network you can share your folders/files/whole disk so it can be visible from any PC in this paricular network. to do that without headache all your computers must be in SAME network (same mask etc).
Or, in case all your computers are located far away from each other, connect to Internet by different ISPs etc, you may create so called VPN - Virtual Privat Network. There are some soft that can do that, but usualy a so called static IP is needed - and only few Internet users can enjoy such service from ISP. Usualy, each time you connect to Internet - manualy or automaticaly - different IP adress is assigned to your unit (PC, Mac, eTrayz etc).
When you install hamachi on your PC, it looks like you get one more network card with its own IP-adress - static one that is assigned forever to you by Logmein company! So you have TWO IP-adresses: one - usualy dynamic that is given to you by your ISP and one static given to you by hamachi soft. And in that case you can join your computers (etrayz's etc) into virtual network and share files, folders etc across Internet.
If you start creating new network on Logmein start page (https://secure.logme...ducts/hamachi2/), you are most likely to loose your way if you are not computer geek.
So you should start with downloading and installing hamachi soft on PC first
(https://secure.logmein.com/hamachi.msi)
After installing soft, start it (switch on button in left upper corner of soft window) and create a new network (network-create new network). You will be asked for unic name of this network, create a password for joining that network and some other stuff.
After all you will join thet new network but you will be the only member of it!
So next step you install hamachi on another computer, start it as above, but as for network, you don't need to create a new one, but to join existing one. So you choose Network-Join existing one, then input the name of the network you have already created on first computer (be carefull - you need to input it exactly it was created!), input password you have already created - and voila! - two computers are joind to same virtual network and it does not matter where they are located phisicaly - they share each other!
You can join as many as 16 PCs in same manner (you can join more, but it will take money!) and now let's join etrayz to this network.
First, stop hamachi proccess from Installer main window, if you have already started it. Now edit /etc/init.d/hamachi (in Putty or WinSCP)

# CHANGE THIS VALUES
NICK="eTrayz" (or whatever you like)
NETWORK="Exact name of a network you created with your PC"
PASSWORD="the password you created while creating your network"

save, close and restart hamachi from Installer main window.
If everything goes all right, you will see a new member of network in hamachi window on your PC under name you assigned to your etrayz! If you right-click on it and choose "Browse", your privat disk will open in Windows explorer and now you are ready to write/reade/copy/delete files without any FTP, WinSCP or Putty or whatever!
Sure, if you command your etrayz from local PC, you don't need all that - you just simply share etrayz public disk and that is all, but if you (as I do) have your etrayz in Moscow and copy files from it in Tokyo - you will need hamachi!
I am using Hamachi to join 4 PCs in Moscow, 2 in Japan, 1 in Cyprus and 1 in Latvia and I am always able to quick copy/backup/etc files between all these PCs without any additional soft, just copying them in explorer (or FAR, or Total commander) window. More, I can even install Radmin (or similar soft) on each PC to control it remotely as if seat in front of it! (But that is another story about PC, not etrayz...)
Good luck!

By the way, you will lose nothing if you install hamachi on each computer in your home network! You will not need to install OpenVPN and mess with certificates etc. Just don't forget to make some shares on each PC your are joining to your new network :oops: and give permissions to read/write on these shares!

1. On PC side. (sorry, my hamachi interface is in russian, so the command names I write below might be different)
open Hamachi window, go to System-Settings-Security and check, if option "block new members by default" is UNCHECKED.
Check, if your PC really joined new network (you see its name in hamachi window with green mark on the left of the name)
If everything is all right, go to etrayz side.
Did you restart hamachi after changing /etc/init.d/hamachi?
(to be sure, start putty, start htop and kill hamachi process manualy, then start it by Installer interface)
Have you seen

/etc/init.d/hamachi start
-> Starting Hamachi hamachi-lnx-n770-0.9.9.9-20 .. ok
-> Starting Hamachi hamachi-lnx-n770-0.9.9.9-20 .. ok
-> Setting nickname .. ok
-> Logging in .......... ok
-> Going online in "YOUR_NETWORK_NAME" .. ok
->
-> ...OK
Program successfully started!

in Installer window when hamachi started?

One more thing.
In hamachi main window on PC all memebers are shown by their IPs by default, not by nicks. You can change that in hamachi settings (something like "show members format...")

Frieseba,

Check Join requests to = Accept automatically on your Hamachi network.
That should do the trick :D

Good luck!

hi,

i've installed it successfully but I'm having a little problem.
This morning I've installed Hamachi on my work PC and I've joined it to my mesh network. Everything was ok except the etrayz is actually offline. Probably it disconnected from hamachi during the night cause inactivity (?)
Is there a way to automatically reconnect it when it happens?
thx

I have same problem. I think its a limit in Hamachi server to disconnect you after a while. Hamachi restart on eTrayz help. And I already have option to ping server every 10 seconds to keep it alive.

usualy it happens when router is restarted or for some ISP, who assignes new IP once a day (or something like that), when new dynamic IP is assigned. So hamachi loses connection to auth server at logmein.com and, though still running, could not be seen in client list.
In case of PC version, every time a connection to auth server is lost, hamachi service try to reconnect, so stop time is no more then needed for router to reboot.
In case of linux version wich is rather outdated and is not officially supported by LogMeIn company, there is no such automatic renewal, so there is nothing to do but to stop-start hamachi daemon from Installer window (or manualy)....Or may be ther is some script to make it automatic?

As far as I know, there is no server inactivity time-out. At least I have no problem with hamachi installed on etrays for days or even weeks (but I have static IP for my router). An certanly no problem with hamachi on PC as long as it is connected to Inet. But each time I restart router - yes, hamachi stops being visible (but still running).

I could make a cron job that checks if hamachi is connected to server and if its not it will restart the himself.

Let me know.

Would be greate if you do that!
If I restart router, connection to hamachi from any other PC dissapears. Still htop reports hamachi process running and even issueing .../hamachi list command shows all network member marking those online. Still no conections to hamachi on ET is possible (even ping hamachi IP gives timout).
Is there any way to understand that connection fm hamachi on ET to elsewhere is lost?

hi guys

I'm completely stumped with Hamachi and I'm hoping one of you can help. I have installed it onto the etrayz using hijackers installer. it all seams to register with hamachi fine and when I connect to hamachi via my windows 7 laptop via wireless at home I can see the etrayz and connect to it on the 5. address. its says direct tunnel and has a green light as you would expect. However when I'am in work using hamachi from my desktop xp machine I can connect to windows 7 laptop at home no problems but the etray has an orange light in hamachi and when hover over it , it says unreachable.

What I can't understand is why I can connect to the windows 7 laptop and not the etrayz ? i've not got web security turned on , on the etrayz. I've also tried sticking it in the dmz but to no avail. is there somthing I need to do on the etrayz ? do I need to add a route ? Anybody have any ideas

Cheers

Norts
