Image enhancement features

Postby nagus » Fri Jun 12, 2009 8:05 pm

Does the Xtreamer support any image/video enhancement features like Upscaling, Deinterlacing etc. which most modern dvd and bluray player supports? I was just wondering how well the Xtreamer can output e.g. a standard DVD movie compared to my panasonic s-52 DVD player.

Curious about this one myself, was just about to buy a Popcorn Hour A110 until i saw this device holding off now think the Xtreamer wil suit me better..(Still need to see a review before i take the plunge). It's causing quite a stir on the NMT website ahead of their new model specs being released on Monday...

Yes it can. You have to remember that Realtek chipsets are usually a lot better at handling the picture quality than Sigma products. And the Xtreamer runs on a very special chip indeed.

That's a BOLD statement given that sigma has been the choice for the last, 2-3 generations of media extender.

I asked before but do you have any benchmarks or samples that can prove the realtek's advantage over the sigma chips?

I'd like to know even just the speed the Realtek chip.

eg: The old Sigma ones were basically 333mhz, and the new ones are 666mhz... What's the Realtek?
[XTreamer:Reverted to FW2.0.2][eTRAYz:V1.0]
Suggestions-

1-Simple Movie Wall
2-XTreamer.txt config file
3-Enhanced shortcuts
Issues-
1-USB drive scanned for 1min. WD Passport drives?
2-New Thumbnail view needs to show subfolders and filenames.

The clock speed of a chip is not as important as the optimisation. I don't think the question of whether the Realtek source code would be made available was answered on another thread. I presume that it won't be made publicly available - but if the xtreamer devs have their hands on it, they could have potentially made some very nifty changes to the way the processing is handled by the chip.

Well, unless there is some onboard hardcoded processing that can help with jpgs etc, then it will come down to raw processing power to display a jpg. I've asked in another thread if there is any specific onboard features to aid with jpgs, but that's another thread that's not been 'visited'... so we have no idea...
